Mainly dust and smudge do the harm but other airborne pollution, Sun radiation, bird poo will end up finding the exterior of your car and decaying the outer layer and reducing its shine. This is where ceramic coating comes to the rescue.
The ceramic coating basically works in slowing down the decay of the car paint because it does not wash away or perish easily. Ceramic coating lasts longer than any wax or sealant; you should know how to use ceramic coating.
How to apply Ceramic Coating on your Car
Not here just kill your time with words and line but here to provide something of a knowledge which will definitely be useful in your times ahead.
To use ceramic coating you don’t have to be a mechanic or a professional expert on cars. But to use it properly you need to aware of what tools you will need and something of the detailing Knowledge. As you know coating is all about bonding and forming a bond on the exterior and for it you will need to prepare the base properly.
Step 1: Preparing the surface before Ceramic Coating:
The first step in preparing the surface contains 6 stages to be complete
A) Primary Rinsing
The first stage of the first step is about rinsing the car. The coating forms the bond in a very particular level forming nan moliculer bonds in the surface for landing the coating over the surface.
So it’s very important for the surface you are using for applying the coating needs to be cheeked free from any contaminants or polluting substances.
There can be many kinds of contaminating matters that usually hinder the car surface. Most commonly mud, dust, bird waste, and over-sprayed paints can be found on the surface and you need to very careful in eliminating all these polluting substances from the base by washing the car properly. For making the rinse easy you should use a hoss pip throughout the washing.
B) Further Cleansing
The second stage will give a better cleansing to the surface. For better handling of the foam, one can use a foam gun. It will be easy if you go from the lowest point or the bottom to the highest of the car regarding the foaming. After applying the foam the surface will ask for another round of rinsing the car.
C) Washing Strategy
Now, you move the third stage of washing. For this stage, you will need two buckets. First, you should make a cleaning solution in one bucket and then clean water on the other.
Your strategy will be that the towel will use will follow a unique mathematical formation. First, your cleaning towel will be dipped in the solution mixed bucket and then you will apply it from the top.
Then the towel will be dipped in clean water then to the solution that we are using and after using it on the surface you will follow this strategy by dipping it again in the water and then again in the solution.
This strategy will make sure that no contaminants are transferred from the car to the environment or from the environment to the car. This stage will end with rinsing the surface with a duct and be careful in not allowing the soap time to settle in the base.
D) Contaminant Compilation
If chemical the ceramic coating ends up getting chemically mixed with polluting components, all your hard work will go in vain. As a result just to make sure that does not happen, you will have to use special kinds of remover to remove the prominent iron fillings and tar over the layer.
You will have to use them by spraying them on your cars outer layer. after sprinkling the remover component you will have to wait sometimes for the result. These components work on the layer by effecting the color during the contamination of the paint. As a result, you need to stay far from the layer during this part. After all this move to the next part washing the car again.
E) Physical Decontamination
Physical Decontamination: In this stage, you’ll need clay bar and clay lubricants to remove all these excess paints, remainders and any score or scratches that may remain on the layer.
First comes using the lubricant and then you will have to use the bar over it. To make your work more effective rub the clay bar both vertically and horizontally.
F) Final Polish
As the coating may end up staying more than two or more years on your car, so you need to be careful about what stays under the coating stays for those years. To remove extra color sticking to the car surface and making the surface will smooth you need to polish the car properly.
As it’s the final step for preparing the surface, you should end it by spraying 2-propanol in your car. It will make sure no leftovers from other steps remain on your car. After spraying you will need a microfiber towel for cleaning the substance. The spray will finally make the surface ready to form the bonding with ceramic coating.
Many people in order to act smart end up doing waxing over the body before the coating but this is not a very good idea. To do ceramic coating youll only need the clean and pollution-free surface but waxing adds nothing but an extra layer that hampers the bond between the surface and the ceramic coating.
Step 2 – Apply The Ceramic Coating
After the preparation part, this step is the main deal. In the second step, you will apply the ceramic coating. This step contains five stages that will eventually lead you in the applying of the coating.
1) Choosing Tools
First, you will find the right tools for this job. In this case, the most important material is the coating solution you will use then comes the coated sponge and the silica spray that will enhance the effects of the coating and lastly a microfiber towel. After gathering all important tools you will first select a surface area where you will put the ceramic coating. It’s better if you take 60cm X 60cm for the starter.
2) Coating Solution
For applying the coating solution first you will have to take 8-10 drops of the solution on the coated sponge. After that, you will have to wait a bit for the solution to get soaked in the sponge. Then you will smear the ceramic coating solution on the selected areas both vertically and horizontally. You should be very careful that you don’t miss any spots. And don’t act over smart by using extra dosage for better results but this action could result in backfire.
3) Break Point
After applying on the surface you will have to wait a while for the product to work. Depending on the product you might have wait 1 to 5 minutes. This waiting time is always put in the user guideline of the product and you should definitely follow that and don’t wait too long because that can ruin all your hard work.
4) Wiping and Polishing
After waiting a while you should wipe and polish the coating with your microfiber towel. If it’s hot there or high temperature then the polishing wiping will go through two steps, first use the wet towel and then a dry one.
5) Application of Spray
After an hour of applying, you can use the silica spray. This spray will add extra glossiness to your coating and also protect your car from water spots
- After this step makes sure that your car stays in the indoor, this will hel to grow the bond more strong and make sure your car stays away from the dirt and pollution.
- Then make sure your car gets enough time for the curing process. Two or three weeks will be enough for your car’s coating to cure.
- In this time of curing, you should be very careful and always keep an eye on your car and make sure the surface stays safe from the harmful contaminants that may harm the body.
- And In this time you should definitely avoid certain things like sprinklers and rain, dirt and debris, bird poor, tree sap, hitting sun rays or anything that may harm the coating.
- If you can maintain ceramic coating it will give you minimum two years of service. After doing all these hard works of coating the surface, now it’s all about maintaining your car for a better service of the product. You should be very careful about washing the car.You should avoid all the hard and acidic soaps that may harm the coating rather you should wash the car with pH neutral soaps and washing components. As washing is important so is drying.
- You should not keep your car unattended because the tap water may harm the surface by leaving stain marks. As a result, you should wipe the surface every time you wash the car with a very soaking capable towel. And also during removal of the spots in your car, you should be very careful and gentle. Be very patient and don’t rush or use too much pressure during the removal.
- Lastly, in maintaining your car you may think of over boarding it with extra coating waxing or sealants but that’s a very bad idea. Waxing or sealant after the ceramic layer is nothing but wastage of money and time. Rather you can boost the ceramic coating with another more concentrated layer of ceramic coating.
To be honest ceramic coating is both costly and time-consuming but maintaining a car has other expenses too. Those other expenses too cost money and time. And we all find the car beautiful in the showroom than on the road and this happens because of the glossiness of it.
And when you can achieve that level of glossiness only by spending some money and some time by following a few steps then it’s nothing but a great treat for you.
